Powering a Greener Tomorrow: Reyal’s Role in Changi Airport’s Renewable Diesel Journey
Date Published

Changi Airport’s renewable diesel trial marks an important milestone in Singapore’s push toward lower-carbon operations. What began as a 50 percent renewable-diesel blend for heavy airside vehicles — from runway sweepers to specialised maintenance equipment — has now progressed to 100 percent renewable diesel. Made partly from used cooking oil collected from the airport’s own eateries, this fuel cuts lifecycle emissions by up to 90 percent compared with traditional diesel, while working seamlessly within existing diesel engines.
Reyal was proud to play a part in the early phase of this journey. During the 50 percent blend trial, Reyal’s authentication technology was used to verify that the fuel mix met the required composition. By confirming blend integrity on-site and in real time, Reyal helped provide confidence that the renewable component was exactly what it claimed to be — a critical step for any organisation transitioning to cleaner energy sources.
This trial also reinforces a broader truth: sustainability efforts depend on trust, traceability, and proof. As renewable fuels become more widely adopted across aviation, logistics, and government fleets, the ability to authenticate fuel origin and composition will become essential. Changi’s use of a circular feedstock — converting used cooking oil into renewable diesel — highlights the need for systems that can verify each stage of the chain, from waste collection to final consumption.
Reyal’s involvement demonstrates how authentication technology supports the shift toward greener operations. By ensuring that every litre used in the trial was measurable, verifiable, and compliant, we helped enable a smoother transition to cleaner fuels without requiring infrastructure change.
Changi Airport’s success shows that sustainable solutions don’t have to be distant or complex. With the right partners, they can be practical, immediate and accountable. Reyal looks forward to supporting more organisations as they adopt renewable fuels with confidence and clarity.
